With routing off, IQ Code sends no prompt content to IQ. With a usable IQ key, it still reads your session defaults from IQ at startup and at most once every ten minutes, using a request with no body. With routing on, IQ Code sends your typed prompts and, for each subagent task Claude starts, the task text Claude wrote for that subagent (secrets scrubbed best-effort, at most 16,000 characters). Your IQ key stays local and authenticates requests to IQ. Model tokens still go directly to Anthropic on your plan.
Scrubbing can miss sensitive text. Claude Code's own Anthropic connection continues with routing on or off.
Read the IQ Code privacy guideA few things to know.
What do I need?
Claude Code 2.1.287 or later, used in the terminal. IQ Code is tested on macOS and Linux, and Windows needs Git for Windows. The Claude desktop app's Code tab is not verified for IQ Code yet. Routing needs an IQ key. IQ Code routing needs the Personal plan ($6/month, 2,000 routing decisions a month). IQ Code does not need your Anthropic API key. The IQ key is separate from the credentials Claude Code uses with Anthropic.
Can I use it for free?
Yes. The cost meter, cache clock, plan pace, budgets, model and thinking labels, /iq pane and IQ themes are free. None of that needs an IQ account or an IQ key. IQ Code routing needs the Personal plan ($6/month, 2,000 routing decisions a month), which also adds rough session cost estimates.
Does IQ Code replace my Anthropic plan?
No. Your model tokens go straight to Anthropic on your own plan. IQ Code routing needs the Personal plan ($6/month, 2,000 routing decisions a month).
What changes when I turn routing on?
IQ Code can use a cheaper model or thinking level for a prompt. It never goes above the model you chose. You can turn routing off with /iq-route off.
Is the dollar meter my bill?
No. It shows API-equivalent dollars: an estimate using API pricing. Your subscription bill is separate. Any savings shown are estimates.
What is sent to IQ?
With routing off, IQ Code sends no prompt content to IQ. With a usable IQ key, it still reads your session defaults from IQ at startup and at most once every ten minutes, using a request with no body. Without a usable IQ key, it sends nothing to IQ. Routing and cost estimate requests stay off until routing is on. With routing on, IQ Code sends your typed prompts and, for each subagent task Claude starts, the task text Claude wrote for that subagent (secrets scrubbed best-effort, at most 16,000 characters). Requests also include recent typed prompts from the current session (up to about 8,000 tokens), model, thinking-level and agent-type labels, conversation size and cache timing facts, and the plugin version. Assistant replies, tool results, file attachments, IDE selections and injected context are not sent, apart from the subagent task text. Rough session cost estimates send usage numbers and labels only, never prompt, answer, file or tool text. Scrubbing can miss sensitive text. Your IQ key stays local and is used only to authenticate requests to IQ. Claude Code still connects to Anthropic as usual.
